Happy Spring Reader! One of the reasons why herbs work so well with the human body is because we’ve evolved through the centuries with them. For the tens of thousands of years before modern times, humans relied on what the earth provided for their every need and survived because of plants. It’s that simple. Your ancestors collaborated with plants for food, medicine, clothing, and shelter. Plants + humans have evolved symbiotically together. Plants providing nutrition and healing for humans, and humans providing care, propagation, and stewardship of the land so plants could grow easily, healthfully, and effortlessly. We’ve always worked together with plants! So when did we begin to stray from this path? Some may argue it was 2000 years ago with the Roman occupation of Europe, some might say it was with the industrial revolution and the "modernization" of medicine, some suggest it was in the last century with the invention of plastic and factory farming that we really started departing from these intuitive and ancestral ways. It also depends on who you are and where you and you ancestors lived. But honestly, it doesn’t really matter when the path was severed, what’s most important is that we can always go back, we can always walk in reciprocity with the plants again. Connecting with the earth and the wild things that grow here is your birthright. It is your path to liberation, your trajectory towards healing in your body, mind, emotions, and spirit. The plants are so eager and excited to connect with you! They want to have more in tune and respectful relationships with humans, they want you to eat them, drink them, or mindfully sit by them to honor their medicine, to allow them to fulfill their purpose on this generous planet. They are here for you! Are you interested in:
Introduction to Herbalism at Wild Heart Herb House is for YOU! Spring is is the PERFECT time to start bringing the healing power of herbs into your life! Imagine all of the incredible healing plants you can grow + harvest all summer! In this class you will learn everything you need to know to begin or continue developing your relationship with plants and the natural world including how to collaborate with them to make potent medicine for yourself, your family, and your community. When you begin to learn about your body, become more self-aware, and use the plants that are growing in your own backyard to make medicine, the powers that be (capitalism, patriarchy, white supremacy, pharmaceutical companies, etc.) begin to loosen their grip and hold over you. You can begin to take the responsibility and the inherent power of your own care and wellbeing into your own hands again. And wow does that feel good! Herbalism is empowering. It is the peoples medicine. It is here for you! Are you feeling the call? Join me and the other like hearted humans who will be signing up. We are waiting for you. The plants are too! Note: I am not anti-doctor, anti-western/allopathic medicine, or anti-pharmaceutical. In fact I believe these institutions play an important role in the health of humans. BUT THIS IS NOT THE ONLY WAY! Herbalism + other natural ways of being and healing are so important to care for the WHOLE person, often preventing the need for excessive doctors, hospitalization, and pharmaceutical medication in the first place. The very single minded way we have been taught (or not taught is probably more accurate) to care for ourselves is not what's best for most people! The bottom line? Your ancestors trusted + relied on herbal medicine for their health and wellbeing and you can too. I'm here to show you how. Love, Nico PS - Wild Hearts Open Mic Poetry is tomorrow night, Friday March 21 from 7-9, and next Friday March 28 we have live fiddle music with Sam Babineau at 7:00! |

hi! there's a lot going on at Wild Heart this spring so we have added an "on the calendar" section at the end of each email so you always know what's going on! The first time I attended a local plant walk it completely changed my life. Many years ago I was invited by local herbalist Sarah Berkman to explore a local farm in Portsmouth, Rhode Island to forage for herbs, gather some that interested us, and just be outside with the plants and each other. I brought my then very young son Lennox...
